purple paint

so.
yesterday chris and i are in the bathroom with lana. she's in the tub. i look over and see tell tale signs of blue paint on the bar of soap and bathroom sink. chris and i both look at each other. my heart starts to race a bit. i'm thinking back to the time before when my little lana threw a paint can into the air and it came down, hit the white carpeted floor and proceeded to spew forth lots of pepto bismal colored paint. this was when she was with a friend. i remember hearing the little friend say: "uh, hello? anyone? hello? uh, there's been an accident..."

and yes, i have been painting. and yes, i had blue paint in the newly carpeted room. and no, i did not make sure it was put away. because no one was around. and i was just coming back. and i wasn't thinking.

me: "lana, did you get into the paint?"
lana: "no."
me, giving her that eye: "are you sure?"
lana: "yes, i didn't do it!"
chris: "are you telling the truth?"
and that's when i see the blue on her fingers and arm and that's when lana sees the blue on her fingers and arm...
me: "what did you do? is it anywhere? tell me what you did."
lana: "i just touched it with my hands and came in here and washed it."

lana when to bed early friday night.

and i continued to paint. i had one last wall to finish. a deep, deep purple.
i'm almost done. i just have to reach the upper part of the wall. i move the ladder. and i'm vaguely aware that the ladder has knocked something. i look down. it's the can of deep, deep purple paint.
ALL OVER THE BRAND NEW CARPET.

yes. it's true. i spilled paint on the brand new carpet. in exactly the place lana had spilled paint on the carpet years ago.

and i can honestly say that now i have experience hyperventilation. it took three towels and me on my hands and knees rehearsing in my mind what i was going to say to chris. and hyperventilating. and wondering what chris was going to say to me. and hyperventilating. have i mentioned we are putting the house on the market it the next week?

after soaking three towels, i run downstairs and google-
HOW TO CLEAN PAINT SPILL FROM CARPET

this is what i read

1. Soak up paint puddle with an old towel.
2. Douse the area with water while simultaneously sucking up with a shop vac. Repeat until the paint stain is nearly gone.
3. Spray Spot Shot (or similar solvent) over the area, scrub with a soft brush until it begins to foam up, douse with water again and suck up with vac.

after reading and hyperventilating a bit more, i call chris and tell him he needs to be home now.

we probably spent a good hour or more dousing and sucking up paint and water.
i am happy to report, there is no deep, deep purple paint on the brand new carpet.

do you want to know what chris said to me?
he actually said that it was only money. if it came down to it and a buyer had an issue with deep, deep purple spotted carpet, we would just pay for it. no big deal.
i love him. a lot.

do you want to know what chris said when i asked if we could get ceily's bed out of the garage and into her bedroom at 9pm and he's been working non-stop since dawn, planting and digging and cutting and planting some more?

he said yes.
i love him more.

Where do you have carpet in your house? I thought it was all wood? I'm amazed you got it out. Good job!

What a great husband! I am glad your purple paint came out. April and Casey spilled Red and they were able to get it out too. They hyperventilated too.

Happy Birthday Noah!

Hey, I was trolling for something to read and something about your blog made me stop.

We are putting our house up for sale in a few weeks too. I feel your pain.

James River? I live two miles from the head of the James! Kind of cool.
