"ponies are make believe"

A couple weeks ago, Noah was invited to a birthday party. On the card, pictured with beautiful Disney princesses, were the words..."Ponies to arrive at 5 o'clock." After lamenting the fact that it was a girl party and there was no way he was going to be a princess, the ponies were mentioned.
Noah: "Mom, ponies are fairy tales. They aren't real."
Me: "Noah, ponies are real. They look like tiny horses."
Noah: "No, ponies are not real."
Me: Every thankful for the Internet..."Let's go home and look on the computer and I'll show you a picture of a pony."
Noah: Quite upset and angry. "Ponies are make believe! They are not for real."
I quickly drop the subject and try to steer the conversation down calmer paths.

Me: "Noah, what do you want to eat for lunch?"
Noah: "I want to go to Sonic."
Me: "No, Sonic is gross. Let's go home and make a sandwich."
Noah: "No, I don't want to go to home for lunch. How about CiCi's?"
Me: "No, we are going home to eat."
Noah: "Noooooooo! Sonic!!!"

Apparently, my plan to tread calmer conversation paths failed. Let's skip ahead a couple of weeks and arrive at the party day.

Me: "Noah, aren't you so excited to go to the party today! And ride ponies?"
Noah: "Ponies are not real. Stop laughing. IT'S NOT FUNNY!!"
Later that day, we arrive at the party house. The backyard is filled with family and children. They are jumping and swinging and eating. Noah and Chris are at the food table retrieving number 3 hot dog. Behind them, being lead by rope, are two darling, real live, breathing ponies. I'm sitting across the yard, waiting for the two foodies, to notice the real live creatures, directly behind them. They, of course, are too enthralled with hot dogs, and they DO NOT NOTICE THE TWO, LIVING, BREATHING PONIES THAT WERE BEHIND THEM.
Me: "Noah, did you see what is over there? Look. It's the ponies."
Noah looks over at the ponies. He's sort of getting a glimmer of sparkle in his eye.
Noah: "Those aren't ponies. They don't have a horn."
Today we will have a lesson on Unicorns vs. Ponies-Uncovering the Myths.
