Valentine Baby

9 years ago today James Edward was born. It was early in the morning when Chris and I kissed our one darling, precious daughter goodbye, and headed to the hospital. We knew Ceily's world would never be the same and I admit I was feeling bad for her. But, for goodness sake, I have 6 siblings! and I knew she would survive. Eddie was a bit late, so our doctor had scheduled the induction. Valentine's Day. How great to have a baby on Valentine's Day. I was already planning all the fun birthday parties, decorating heart shaped cookies, cutting out Valentine's cards and wearing pink and red.

When I have my babies, I invite all to come and share the love. My family is there, my nieces and nephews are there. The neighbors are there. (not really.) It drives Chris absolutely crazy. So, everyone that wanted to be was there, and the room was full. (I remember reading the chart and the nurse had written that I was a bit moody. I was quite offended and let her know by not talking to her anymore!)(I also remember my doctor asking us if we were going to name him Adonis.) My sister Sierra was in nursing school at the time. My doctor has a big fat crush on her, and little did we know, she would be able to catch our little love baby. Eddie loves that his Aunt Sierra was able to hand deliver him to me. My very own hand made, 8 pound Valentine. He was perfect with all toes and fingers and a round head. Once my babies are handed to me, I just want to hold them and study them and gobble them up. I want no one else to share the newness. I can't wait to be able to have him all to myself for a few hours and study that little face and body. Trying to memorize everything about this new gift.
Well, it's been a love affair ever since. Eddie has been a joy since day one. He has actually measured up to his birth date. He's fun and loving and kind and cute and good. He is loved by others. He refuses to have the perfect Valentine's Birthday Party though. I can't convince him that boys really do want to spend a couple of hours decorating hearts and cookies and talking about falling in love.
We love him and because we love him, we took him to the Crab House for dinner. For 6 years he has been wanting to go to the Crab House for dinner. Every year he asks, and for some reason, every year we sort of ignore those requests. Don't know why. Grandpa Jim and Grandma Jacqui arrived today to help celebrate. They brought with them Wii Guitar Hero and Eddie has quickly become a master player. Happy Valentine's Day Eddie. I mean, Happy Birthday Eddie.
