What's lurking behind the grass?
An alligator.
A couple of weeks ago we were driving home after a school activity. We were passing by a pond close to the children's school and we saw an alligator's head just above the surface. Chris turned the car around and we sat there in the car for maybe 15 minutes watching as the animal slowly crept closer and closer. Eventually, the alligator submerged himself under the water. This was when we made Chris get out of the car and get closer so he could see if the alligator was going to climb out of the water. There was no climactic scene of Chris running as quick as he could to the car to escape the attack of the three foot alligator. Darn! But we enjoyed the anticipation and the first spotting of the spring alligators.
So yesterday I had just completed my last day volunteering in Lana's classroom. (YEAH!) I was driving home from school and I saw the alligator...AGAIN! I actually drove home very quickly, grabbed my camera and drove back. Being the Uber mom that I am (just kidding about the uber part), I stood there for 20 minutes capturing the alligator in all its splendor so my children could enjoy him as well. I will warn you that the video is long and boring and I wasn't too steady as I filmed. I was really hoping as Alligator (his new name) swam that he would all of a sudden jump up and grab a bird as it stood innocently on the bank, enjoying the sun. No such luck. Alligator just swam and then quietly disappeared. (sooo, i tried to upload the video...didn't happpen. tired many times. we will figure it out and post later. sorry.)

That is so cool! I never had such a close encounter, but Evan was about to go for a golf ball once when someone pointed out a lurking alligator. He looks big. So cool.
